MEDIA KIT

McKenzie seeks to become the first qualifier to win on PGA TOUR Champions since 2012

VICTORIA, B.C. (September 16, 2017) – David McKenzie will enter the final round tied for the lead after shooting a 7-under 64 in the second round of the 2017 Pacific Link Bear Mountain Championship. The Australian was the fourth player to open qualify on Tuesday and will look to become the first qualifier to win on PGA TOUR Champions since Willie Wood won the 2012 DICK’S Sporting Goods Open. McKenzie is T1 with Jerry Smith, who shot a second round 66. This is the second time Smith has been a leader entering the final round on the PGA TOUR Champions. So far this year, a leader/co-leader heading into the final round has gone on to win 10 out of 20 tournaments.

Rod Spittle carded a second-round 66 and he is T12, which is best among the three Canadians in the field. He and Stephen Ames (T20, -5) are two of the three Canadian victors on PGA TOUR Champions. Victoria’s Jim Rutledge is 68th at 4-over-par.

Charles Schwab Cup leader Bernhard Langer shot 69 Saturday and is part of the six-way tie for sixth at 8-under. Last year, he shot a final-round 63 to improve from T26 to T7.

First-round leader Steve Flesch shot 70 and is T6, while fellow rookie David Toms began the day T2 and is now T6 after a second-round 69.

Along with Lee Janzen and co-leader David McKenzie, Gary Hallberg also shot 64, Saturday’s best score. Hallberg improved 15 shots from the first to second round, and he is 1-over for the tournament.

Tee off for round two is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. at Bear Mountain Golf Resort in Victoria, British Columbia.
