The Pacific Links Championship was first played in September 2012 at the Kapolei Golf Course in Kapolei, Hawaii. Willie Wood won the inaugural tournament shooting a −14 and taking home $1.8 million purse. The tournament remained in Kapolei until 2015 before it moved to the 27 Club in Tianjin, China.

In 2016, the tournament moved to Victoria, British Columbia. The 2016 event was a great success, with 81 of the top PGA TOUR Champions players competing for one of the season’s highest purses of $2.5 million. The tournament saw more than 27,000 spectators come out to watch the largest event held on Vancouver Island. All three competitive rounds of tournament play were broadcast live by the Golf Channel to more than 200 million homes in 84 countries around the world.

The 2016 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship was won by Colin Montgomerie who made a 15-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole Sunday evening, edging out Scott McCarron.
